Working location: Raynesway, Derby

We are currently recruiting for a Carbon Accountant to join our RRSL Sustainability team for Rolls-Royce Submarines team based in Derby.

What you will be doing:

Working within the RRSL Sustainability team, undertake data gathering, calculations and suggest reduction pathways to accurately reduce and display a reduction in carbon emissions for the organisation, as part of the One RR Winning Together Sustainability Strategy and in-line with the MoD's Net Zero 2050 target and the UK Climate Act.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Carbon Footprint Measurement & Reporting
  • Data Management and Systems Integration: Implement and manage carbon accounting software/tools, considering security requirements.
  • Engage with stakeholders or resources to propose and establish a governance structure that is fit for purpose.
  • Identify legal, customer and corporate sustainability compliance requirements and assure compliance.
  • Model emissions scenarios and support cost-benefit analysis of mitigation projects and track progress against Net Zero and Science-Based Targets
  • Support wider Sustainability activities, covering; Environmental aspects, Social aspects, Economic aspects (particularly around carbon costs), Digital modelling capabilities, influence a wider MoD and Industry Sustainability change programme.

Who we’re looking for:

Ideal candidates would have qualifications and experience in:

  • Professional certification (e.g. ISEP, CPA with a sustainability focus, IET)
  • Qualified to degree level in a relevant technical discipline - BSc, BEng, MSc, or MEng in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Environmental Sciences, Accountancy, or another relevant technical discipline.
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of issues surrounding climate change, energy, GHG emission accounting and reporting, carbon footprinting and sustainability.
  • Strong working knowledge and understanding of carbon accounting frameworks (GHG Protocol, ISO 14064, PAS 2060)
  • Working knowledge and experience of carbon accounting, carbon measurement techniques and calculation methods for Scopes 1, 2, and 3, LCA (Life Cycle Assessment).
  • Experience in one of the following: DREAM, BREEAM, Net Zero strategies, developing carbon reduction strategies through low carbon technologies, or energy networks and energy security experience.
  • 3-5 years of experience in organisational and project carbon accounting and sustainability reporting, ideally in a manufacturing or industrial setting
  • Good understanding of UK and EU decarbonisation/Net zero frameworks and policy.

To work for the Rolls-Royce Submarines business an individual has to hold a Security Check clearance.  Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you do not currently already have this in place.

Due to the nature of work the business conducts and the protection of certain assets we can only progress applications from individuals who are a UK national or, in MoD approved cases, a dual national.
